Arianna Huffington is Insane

Arianna Huffington and David Frum were panelists on Reliable Sources this morning discussing George Allen's fumbling response to the "Is your mom a Jew" question.

It's my view that it was an inappropriate question, it is understandable he flubbed the answer on stage, but his follow-ups only displayed his typical unskilled political spin.

But the discussion really got interesting when Frum, sticking to the inappropriateness of the original question, and Huffington, pursuing the Allen's dishonesty compared the issue to Clinton's similar dishonesty.

I paused the DVR to say to my girlfriend, "Funny, when you ask most Democrats about Clinton's lie under oath, they say 'he never should have had to answer that question in the first place, therefore, his gentleman's lie was ok.' But when Allen trips over a totally unexpected query into his religion - no, his mother's religion - it supposedly exposes his dishonesty. I hope Frum calls this out."

Frum did call it, and Huffington's unbelievable reply is:

"One second. This is a very important point.

You cannot honestly think that the private state of a politician's marriage is of the same caliber in terms of honesty and questioning and, indeed, permissibility for the press to ask about that as the heritage, the ethnicity of his parents? You really think that's..." [ellipsis in transcript]

So Arianna thinks that someone's mother's ethnicity and religious beliefs are more important to question than a president's (and possible future firt-husband's) sex addiction. How much risk is there that Allen will ever be blackmailed because his mother is Jewish? Is it really possible that Allen's mother's religious and ethnic background could turn into an impeachment and cripple the Whitehouse? Is Allen's mother's background something that will impact how Allen behaves in his office, or with young interns? Will it affect how he treats the attractive women he encounters as employees and staffers?
