This Guy is So Busted
As I was reading the first Confederate Yankee post on this topic, I was sitting with my girlfriend and giving her the lowdown. When I distilled the story for her, she had the same reaction I did: unbelievable!
So when I read in the comments section that CY had left very relevent portions out of the quotes I felt I'd been undermined by my own conservative brethern. I had to clarify for my GF that Mitchell was 19, an intern, etc. That done, I pointed out how dissapointed I was to find that everyone is really just spinning for their own bias. Maybe blogs are worthless for getting at the truth, or at least no threat to MSM.
I'm glad I finished reading the comments before I posted my own. It turns out that CY quoted the 2003 story accurately; someone went into the Editor & Publisher archives and added words without making any note of the changes for reader's knowledge.
The six blogs that quoted the original article were then subject to appearing to have left out relevent info without any marks of ellipsis or [snip] indicators. Their credibility is on the chopping block because E&P is altering its archives without notice.
And of course Barfly, the contrarian commentor at CY who so gleefully "caught" CY leaving out text, must not appreciate having been set up by E&P.
UPDATE: Here is an example of Greg Mitchell acting as the conscience of the reporting trade, coming down on the side of defending Middle-Eastern photo stringers.
